If you are thinking about training your little one to drink from a sippy cup, my recommendation is to start with a cup that has a soft spout. I don’t know how early you can start training a baby to use a sippy cup, I started with my daughter at around the same time that I introduced solids; 5 months. However, I do recall that the first sippy cup I purchased (and my favorite one to this day) indicated on the packaging that it’s use was for babies 3 months+ (which perhaps answers my earlier question about the timing of introducing a sippy).
This is the cup: it’s the Nuby No Spill Cup; it’s the one my daughter uses most, and drinks best from. Based on my experience, I highly recommend it as a first time sippy cup.
I would love to hear comments, or different experiences, other mothers have had with different sippy cups; as well as any of your recommendations.
My daughter never drank out of a bottle (she’s breastfed) except for when she was a newborn and I had to give her formula as a supplement to breastmilk. I sometimes wish that I had given her the bottle though; she rejected it when I tried giving it to her, after not having used it for some months. I would be curious to see how babies who drank from a bottles did with the transition to a sippy cup. Perhaps that’s an idea for another poll; did your baby drink from a bottle or transition straight from breastfeeding to a sippy cup. (I have a feeling most babies drink from a bottle, even breastfed ones. I blame myself, I just haven’t been very good about pumping!)
