What would I do without my cell phone? What would any of us do without a cell phone in this day and age? These devices all but govern us, seriously. I feel like I rely on my cell phone for everything. When I need anything, and I’m on the go, it’s what I turn to. I use it on a constant basis, and I am accessible through it almost 24/7, if I choose to be. I feel that once I access my phone at the start of the day there is no turning back, I’m on.
Before cell phones were equiped with what they are equiped with today, there were times when we weren’t accessible and could have down time, now it’s as though there is no such thing. It’s almost an addiction. If someone is looking for you there is no excuse for not being accessible, because after all you are armed with your cell phone. You have to respond to urgent messages.
I find that trying to keep conversations that occur via messaging personal is a challenge. Personal touches are lost when all we see is text and other type-written, or even picture messages. Personal connections really aren’t so personal when everything is accessible at the touch of a finger. The way I keep this type of communication personal is by reaching out telephonically, and via Skype when possible. In all honesty I would much rather see close friends than text, message or via the use of any other app anyway. When distance prevents personal meetings, a telephonic conversation, or one that takes place via Skype is better than a type written one, any day.
I feel that connections aren’t real when they’re not cultivated outside of the electronic world. It’s so easy to connect, but you are not doing so on a very personal level. As much as these devices do for us, they make things and places easy to find, learn about, etc. they take away a lot of the personal contact, which I have always felt is essential to keep in touch in our relationships.
I think we rely far too heavily on our phones for social connections, perhaps it is our fast lifestyle and busy schedules – whether you have a family or not, making time for people who are close to you is not always possible. Seeing your friends is not always easy to do, and especially if you have a family. So, our cell phones make connections with these people possible when we are on the go, at the touch of a finger. Easy? Yes. Personable? Not so much.

I still don’t own one of these modern marvels. I was hoping to get one
for a product review on my site. They seem to do everything.
Its all about perspective, I think its great because it use my phone to assist, many friends see it as a device which increases their workload. At the end of the day we all must learn to know our limites. Just because something is possible does not mean it should be done.
